Racial Profiling In Today's Airports

In today's airports you have to do a lot of unnecessary security screenings, but they are not always unnecessary. The tests and screenings are really unnecessary when they are done on the elderly, and on the very young. The only people that need to have extra safety screenings done are people from the Middle East, and people with mental disorders. This may seem racist to these certain groups of people but it is not. This is not racist because if you look at past plane hijackings it was mostly always a person with a mental disorder or of Middle Eastern descent. I know we do not want to take the risk of another plane hijacking, but we need to at least bump back security so it is not so insane to fly to a different city. The only time that there should be a lot of security is when the person is from a different country, and when it is hard to understand what the person is talking about. On September 11, 2001, the guy that gave the terrorists their tickets to board the plane knew that there was something wrong about them and that he should have told security about the two terrorists, but he did not and it ended in a disaster. This is when we should use racial profiling in the airports around America. We should use all of our security on those kinds of people not on the people we know are not going to commit a crime. Everyone should go through a metal detector, however it is not necessary to search small children and seventy year old grandmothers. I have also heard that in some airports in the United States of America that they are making passengers do full body scans. These scans show every part of a persons body and they are a huge invasion of a person's privacy. This is going way over board and they should stop doing this because it is just not right and we need to stop this. The only time that they should use this security measure is when someone is from a different country or someone that is mentally unstable. Airports around America should start thinking about this because it is not just inconvenient for the passengers that are innocent and are planning to just fly to another city but its also a waste of time. Airports should think about using racial profiling and cut back security on people they know would not commit a crime and add security to those people who they think would commit a crime. It seems as if racial profiling would eliminate the need for innocent law abiding Americans, including children and elderly people from being searched unnecessarily. If this step were taken, flying could return to the quick and pleasant travel experience that it used to be.

  1. While I'm not saying I condone racial profiling in airports, in today's world it's hard not to. Most people will jump to conclusions about a person's intentions without a second thought towards it.

  2. I don't exactly agree with this post because i find it necessary to screen all, because once you start not screening a child or an elderly couple they will start to hold power and will be paid, bribed, ransomed, ect to sneak the explosives onto planes for other people or could even do it themselves. I think the screenings, bag and luggage checks, pat downs, and wandings are necessary and if you don't like that, then don't fly. I like my safety and wouldn't feel safe to fly without those precautions.

  3. I think all of the security is necessary. You never know who the crazy person is that wants to blow up a plane.

  4. I completely disagree with this post. Although security in airports may seem long and unnecessary, you can never put a time limit on being safe. It is entirely incorrect to "assume" that someone will not commit a crime or attempt to hijack a plane simply for their age, gender, or nationality. For that reason EVERY PERSON should recieve the same security screenings before boarding a plane.

  5. I also disagree with this post. If you want a more equal world then you can't agree with allowing certain races or genders or whatever to be assumed innocent. that would only lead to bigger problems.

  6. I disagree with this post too. Just because someone is mentally unstable or from the Middle East doesn't mean they are always going to hijack a plane, so it is unfare to say that a person who doesn't fall into those categories won't hijack a plane. There should be the same security screenings for everyone.

  7. I disagree completely with this post. Just because you look different does no mean you are not a good person. It does not mean that just because you are from the middle east you are going to bomb something like they are made out to be.

  10. I believe that airport security do (by instinct) profile these people already.

  11. I don't agree with this post. I think that all security in airports is necessary. The security is checking everyone because in today's world anyone could be a terrorist...

  12. When the do a full body scan its not like they can see anything "personal"...its just an x-ray kinda thing (I had it done to me) wasn't a big deal.

  14. I strongly disagree with this post. Secruity in airports is necessary. Everyone should be checked. Anyone could be a terroist. I wouldn't feel safe on a plane if not everyone had been throuhg security.

  15. I somewhat agree with this post, but terrorist come in all races, ages and genders. Plus there are crazy people out there who do stupid crap because they are just straight up crazy with no motive. Just look at the girl who tackled the pope, the guy who shot up the military fort, or even the kids who do the school shootings. A lot of crazy stuff goes down in this world, and no one is exempt of being under suspicion just because of age or race.

  16. There is logic to what you're saying but we simply can't do that. next, only black people will be required to undergo drug testing, primary serial killer suspects will all be white males over 30, and only Mexicans will have to go through security at the border, soley because of steryotype. It's a path that can't lead anywhere good.

  17. Racially profiling is not a good thing, but we almost have to do it to protect the safety of everyone so it's necessary.

  18. Airports don't know which passengers have mental disorders so that might not work, and I think everyone should go through security even though it is a major pain in the behind.
